Congratulations to Melvin Swain who placed first in the Steamfitter/Pipefitter category at the UA National Skills Competition in Edmonton. Melvin is a third year apprentice pipefitter currently doing his Block 4 training at the UA Training Center. In August Melvin will be travelling to Ann Arbor for the UA International Skills Competition. Congratulations Melvin.
Congratulations to Andrew Hebert who recently competed in the Skills Canada National Plumbing competition in Waterloo Ontario. While Andrew did not place in the competition, he did put in a strong showing against much more experienced competitors. Andrew is a third year plumbing apprentice and a member of UA Local 740. Congratulations Andrew.
Congratulations to Karen Fiander on winning the Alberta Centennial Scholarship. Karen is currently enrolled in the entry level Steamfitter/Pipefitter class at the UA Training Center. Congratulations Karen.
The UA Training Center recently hosted the UA Eastern Regional Apprenticeship Competition from April 7th to 9th. New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador each had representatives in the competition. Melvin Swain, 3rd year apprentice with UA Local 740 was the first place winner in the Steamfitter/Pipefitter competition. Congratulations to all the competitors and best wishes in their future endeavours.

A sincere Thank You to all competitiors, judges, volunteers, Training Coordinators, and the staff of Local 740 for making the competition possible. The winner travels to Edmonton in June for the National Competition with the winner of that competition competing in the US.
Also in March Local 740 Training Center hosted the Skills Canada Competition and our Plumber Apprentice, Andrew Hebert, won Gold for Newfoundland & Labrador. Congratulations to Andrew who now moves on to the National Competition in Waterloo Ontario.
