About Us

Local 740 was chartered as a Local of the United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters, and Steamfitters in 1949. The local has approximately eleven hundred members, both Journeypersons and apprentices, in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

We represent members in the trades of Plumbing, Pipefitting, Sprinklerfitting, Steamfitting, High Pressure Welding and Non Destructive Testing. Our members have been major contributors to the successful completion and ongoing maintenance of projects such as the Hibernia offshore platform, the Terra Nova FPSO, the Come by Chance Oil Refinery, the Trans Shipment Facility at Whiffen Head, and several Alberta Tar Sands projects.

The union office is located in Donovan's Industrial Park, Mount Pearl. This building also houses the Trust Fund office where the local's Health and Welfare and Pension Plan funds are administered. Adjacent to the Main office building is a fully equipped training facility where courses in all trades represented by the Local are taught at both the Apprentice and Post JourneyPerson level.
