Description: The UA Steward Training Program will prepare journeypersons to take leadership roles in working as a Union representative to lead our membership in completing the work of the UA and protecting its’ jurisdiction in the workplace. This program is designed to prepare the Steward for their role as Leader and explain methods for working with management and membership towards a more productive jobsite.

Description: Students will learn the knowledge of procedures used to lay out and mark pipe and tube for bending. They will demonstrate knowledge of procedures used to bend pipe and tubing.

Description: Drawings are the instructions for the piping tradesperson. Site plans show where all the outside services and major equipment may be placed. Line lists and specifications show the particular material, connections and fittings for the pipe installations. Notes convey specific information on some aspect that cannot be derived from the drawing itself. Correct blueprint interpretation manages a project and helps get the job completed. This course is designed to help Plumbers, Pipefitters and Sprinkler System Installers understand and interpret drawings common to their field.

Description: This course is designed to provide a clear understanding of the cleaning, inspection, repairing and testing procedures used for process piping and equipment, which is typically isolated from other equipment by the use of blinds. Also covered in this course are blinding/de-blinding procedures and the methods acceptable to construction standards. Additionally, the course covers various pressure testing procedures and safety concerns.

Description: This course is designed to explain proper piping procedures and installation methods for ductile iron and PVC piping. Underground piping plays a major part in supplying potable water to a project and removing waste from a system.

Description: The process of welding piping materials creates stresses within the pipe used for high pressure steam, oil and gas systems and if these stresses are not controlled, the material can become damaged. Heat stress relieving is used to try and return welded materials back to their original state and relieve the built up stresses to "normalize" the material.

Description: The Foreman Certification Program will prepare Journeypersons to take leadership roles in working with crews of industry workers to lead them in completing work for contractors by providing them with the initial supervisory skills they need to complete the requirements of the position. This program will provide a foundation to enable workers to continue their development for supervisory skills and to enhance opportunity for further advancement in supervision for contractors.

Description: Students will learn the process of pipe fabrication, including pipe preparation and assembly, alignment and layout techniques. Proper beveling, transitioning, layout, spool fabrication, fitting allowances, and fitting/flange installation are some of the principles covered in this course.

Description: To provide the student with the necessary qualifications to properly and efficiently install, survey, test and troubleshoot backflow equipment as it is used in water supply connections. This includes the theoretical training in operation of equipment to achieve required results, as well as accurate test results.

Description: To provide the necessary qualifications for specialized training in the installation and testing of piping for hospital and industrial applications. The participants in this course of training will be qualified to install, service and maintain Medical Gas Systems in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as most jurisdictions in Canada. They will have an understanding of the need for proper installation practices, which include cleanliness of work, proper purging techniques and other necessary work practices to insure the safety of the public.

Description: To review and promote discussion of changes within the 2010 edition of NFPA 13 Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. It will highlight those changes affecting the current sprinkler system installer and how these changes impact the installation of future systems.

Title: BT1000TC TORQUE & TENSIONING/PIPE MACHINING

Description: Controlled Bolting is the process of placing a pre-determined load or amount of torque into a stud or bolt, which when done properly, results in a piping system completely containing its media. Pipe Machining involves preparing the piping for proper fit-up to receive high quality welding and the repairing of expensive flanges using complex machining tools and equipment. It involves pipe cutting and bevelling using equipment that achieves consistent results favourable to todays fast paced construction jobs.

Description: A partnership has been formed with UA Canada, NAUSC and the CSA group. This initiative will provide a Canadian piping trades training and certification national standards for rigging that will ensure safe and productive work sites for anyone involved in installation and maintenance of piping systems in all areas of the piping industry in Canada. NOTE: In order to qualify for this course, entrants must supply a copy of a current Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate. Title: TH1000TC THERMOGRAPHY LEVEL I

Description: The purpose of this training is to provide hands-on basic level of instruction to maintenance, engineering, or operations personnel in the use of thermographic imaging equipment. This on-site training will focus on those applications relevant to the diagnostic needs of your company, as well as a general background in solving thermal problems. Particular emphasis will be placed on the capability of your infrared camera(s) and related software. The participants, upon completion of the training, will be able to better utilize the imaging equipment to perform thermographic surveys of the site, and be able to more fully incorporate thermographic inspections in your existing diagnostic programs to increase efficiency, reduce inspection time, increase reliability, and reduce costs.
