Many of you recently received a letter from Manulife Financial (dated July 8, 2026) about a change to how cheque payments are mailed. We’ve had a number of calls about it, so we want to clear up the confusion in plain terms.
The short version: your pension amount and payment schedule are not changing. This letter is only about mailing timing for cheques — and it was sent to more people than it actually applies to.
If you’re already on direct deposit
You don’t need to do anything. This change has no effect on you. Manulife confirmed to us that their system automatically includes everyone in this mailing, even members who are already on direct deposit — it’s an administrative quirk on their end, not a signal that anything about your account has changed. You can simply disregard the letter.
If you receive your pension payment by cheque
Starting with payments issued on or after August 8, 2026, Manulife will mail cheques closer to the actual payment date. This means your cheque may arrive a few days later than you’re used to.
Your payment amount and your payment schedule are not changing — only when the cheque is put in the mail.
Want to avoid the mail entirely?
Direct deposit is the most reliable way to make sure you’re paid on time, every time. To set it up, send Manulife your full name, policy number, and a void cheque or banking information:
- Email: gsrsiso@manulife.ca
- Mail: Manulife Financial, Attn: Imaging Services GRS, 500 King Street North, Waterloo, ON N2J 4C6
If you’d rather not send banking details by email, you can call Manulife directly at 1-888-727-7766 (Mon–Fri, 8 a.m.–8 p.m. ET) to ask about setting it up over the phone or by mail instead.
Still have questions?
We know this letter caused some worry. Nothing about your pension has changed — this was simply a mailing update from Manulife that went out more broadly than it needed to.
If you’re still unsure whether this applies to you, or have any other questions, please call the Benefits Office — we’re happy to walk through it with you.
